A strong disgust towards pretentious college jazz-students and school-choirs triggered the three high school friends Anton, Viktor and Viktor to establish the hardcore-influenced garage punk band Pretty Whores of Manhattan in early 2007. With no particular purpose in mind other than that of ventilating the agitation and frustration that comes from growing up in a small town, the band began to perform in and around their hometown of Lund, Sweden. They quickly gained a reputation of being a vicious live act. The commotion had just begun.
During their two years as a band the three-piece has put out two demos, both highly regarded by critics and audiences alike.
These previous recordings were released as an EP through iTunes in the fall of 2008.
The band has played over 50 shows throughout Sweden, and joined international acts such as Be Your Own Pet, Electric Eel Shock, The Dirtbombs, Danko Jones, and Graveyard on stage. They’ve been featured several times on Swedish National Radio as well as in magazines such as Denimzine and Close-Up. Last year the band performed at various summer festivals all over Sweden and this year they will be a part of the famous Hultsfred festival.
In the fall of 2008 they reckoned that a name change would be appropriate and went to become simply “Pretty Whores”.
Pretty Whores’ debut EP “Teens of USA” is the most complete and relentless piece of work the band has achieved so far. Aggressive and reckless yet more elaborate and uniform than ever before. The influences remain the same, deriving from the attitude of hardcore music and the early uninhibited punk movement, the ruthlessness of Iggy Pop combined with the wits of the Beastie Boys.
Other bands that the members of Pretty Whores wouldn’t mind being a part of include: Hot Snakes, The Bronx, New Bomb Turks, and Death From Above 1979.
Pretty Whores are:
Anton Collinder - guitar, vocals
Viktor Rinneby – bass, vocals
Viktor ”Påven” Fagerqvist – drums
